Interview

Is the name Sondae Blu or woolbeanie? Was there a rebrand? And Why?

Sondae Blu as of now... Rebranding gives me an opportunity to re-invent myself as I don't want to ever stay the same. I like to evolve and be different or should I say just be myself. Plus have you worn a woolbeanie in Brooklyn mid summer before....? lol

You began your creative work as a DJ/Producer under under wing of Andre Power of Soulection fame. What was that experience like and what were your takeaways?

I guess to say the least Andre Power and Brian Sufficient Sounds showed me how to DJ in Brian's garage in San Diego back in 2012. That same trip Andre gave me 150gb worth of music, stuff ranging from pre Soulection vibes but music from Abjo, ESTA. Carmack to James Blake and SBTRKT. So that changed my life by opening me up to a sound that was different.

Your projects 'Ke Lo Ke' and 'Urban Paradise' sound like a reflection of your Dominican and Afro-American descent. How do feel as a DJ/Producer hearing these sounds especially baile funk and afro-pop entering the mainstream sound?

It's interesting, good for the people and culture but why now, this should have been on peoples radar.

Was your release of 'Urban Paradise' in 2020 planned or did you release music during the pandemic because you had more time to create?

Urban Paradise came out right when it was needed. During the "Worlds worst pandemic" dark and gloomy time. UP is basically how I saw my environment growing up as child. I've always found beauty within living in the hood of Wilmington, DE and South Philly.

Who are your top 3 artists you would like to produce for?

I don't want to make music for someone else at the moment.

What are you currently working on?

All things crypto, nft's, web3 domains and this episode 11 for Global Bounce Radio.

Do you do anything else for work besides music?

My creativity is all over the place. I've been heavily involved with web3, crypto and NFT's so yea that's my current wave.

Who are you musical influences? (Old and New)

Ma mother for always playing music around the house since I was a young bul.

Who is a new artist you discovered recently that you want everyone to listen to?

LATENIGHTJIGGY - shout out to JABNMAR for putting me on.

How do you find new music?

Listening to DJ NAYIRAM

If you had to listen to one song on repeat for the rest of your life, what would it be?

What's your current DJ/Production setup and why?

I've been using VDJ (Virtual DJ) since 2013 and never looked back. Ableton for production.

What vibe are you going for with this mix?

Feel good music. I certainly feel like afro-caribbean and house music really sets a different mood especially at parties.

What should your fans expect from you next?

A live set in LA with Andre Power at the end of this month. And creatively just some dope nft's and making money in crypto.

What advice would you give to aspiring artists/DJs/Producers out there?

Don't ever compare yourself just do you and don't give up.
